The experience

St Lucia in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to St Lucia costs from £1,749 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 7 nights, all-inclusive and return flights from London. October 2026 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does a St Lucia all-inclusive holiday include, and what does it cost?

Seven nights at the Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa or similar with all-inclusive meals, drinks and entertainment and return UK flights. ATOL protection under licence 10713 applies and a £99 per person deposit holds it. September is the cheapest month and February the dearest. Excursions, transfers, spa treatments and travel insurance are not included. British passport holders need no visa, but St Lucia grants a maximum of six weeks rather than the 90 days most of the Caribbean gives, and an online immigration form is required before arrival.

Why is September the cheapest month?

Because it is inside hurricane season, and the price reflects that rather than hiding it.

GOV.UK states that the hurricane season in the Caribbean normally runs from June to November. September is the cheapest month on the holiday and it falls in the middle of that window. October is the second cheapest and also inside it.

We are not going to tell you September is a bad idea. Most September holidays in St Lucia happen without incident, and the island is quieter and greener for it. What we will not do is sell you the cheapest month without saying why it is the cheapest.

Month Hurricane season?
September Yes
October Yes
May No
November Yes
June Yes
August Yes
July Yes
December No
January 2027 No
February 2027 No

May is the recommendation. It is the cheapest month on the holiday that falls outside hurricane season altogether, and it sits at the dry end of the year before the summer rains. Every month cheaper than it is inside the season; every other month outside the season costs more.

If your dates are fixed inside the season, travel anyway and buy insurance that covers weather disruption properly. GOV.UK advises monitoring local news and weather reports during those months.

What is St Lucia actually like?

It is the most dramatic island in the eastern Caribbean, and that is the reason to choose it over a flatter, sandier neighbour.

The Pitons are two volcanic spires rising straight out of the sea on the south-west coast, and they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are the image on every postcard of the island and they are genuinely more impressive in person than in photographs.

The interior is rainforest rather than scrub — mountainous, wet, green, with waterfalls and hiking trails. St Lucia has weather that other Caribbean islands do not, and that is what makes it look the way it does.

Sulphur Springs at Soufrière is a drive-in volcanic crater with hot springs and mud baths. It smells exactly as you would expect and people queue anyway.

The beaches are good rather than the best in the Caribbean. Many are dark volcanic sand rather than white. If a picture-perfect white beach is the single thing you want, Antigua or Barbados deliver it more reliably. St Lucia gives you scenery instead.

Soufrière and the west coast are where the island is at its most photogenic — a small working town beneath the Pitons, botanical gardens, and a coastline that drops steeply into deep water. Most boat trips run along this side.

Rodney Bay and the north are the developed end, with the marina, restaurants and most of the island’s nightlife. It is a different St Lucia from the south and worth an evening if your resort is within reach.

The food is worth leaving the resort for. Creole cooking, green figs and saltfish as the national dish, and a Friday night street party at Gros Islet that has been running for decades. An all-inclusive board makes it easy to miss all of it.

Is all-inclusive the right choice here?

On this island, more so than most.

St Lucia is mountainous, the roads are winding and slow, and resorts tend to sit some distance from one another. Wandering out to a different restaurant each evening is far less practical than it is on a flat island with a developed strip. All-inclusive removes a real friction rather than just a notional one.

The board on the holiday is confirmed as all-inclusive and covers meals, drinks and entertainment. What sits inside that at any given resort — premium spirits, speciality restaurants, motorised watersports — varies, and we confirm the detail in writing against your property before you pay.

The counter-argument is that St Lucia has good local food and a restaurant scene worth leaving the resort for at least once. An all-inclusive board makes it very easy never to do that.

Pick a coast rather than just a resort. The north-west around Dickenson Bay is the developed, sociable side with watersports and beach bars. The south and east are quieter, with better swimming on calm days and considerably less going on after dark. Neither is better; they are different holidays and worth choosing deliberately.

Every beach in Antigua is public, which is unusual in the Caribbean and genuinely useful. You can walk out of your resort and along the sand as far as you like, and stop at a beach bar that has nothing to do with your hotel.

What changes your price?

  • The month. September at its cheapest against February at its dearest.
  • Travelling inside or outside hurricane season, which accounts for most of the variation.
  • Departure airport. The package lists return UK flights; any supplement for a regional departure is confirmed at enquiry rather than promised here.
  • Room category. The lead-in is a standard room; sea-view, swim-up and suite categories are quoted separately.
  • Cabin. This is a long transatlantic sector and premium cabins move the total considerably.

Who this holiday suits

  • Honeymooners and couples — this is what the island trades on and it earns it.
  • Travellers who want scenery as well as a beach: mountains, rainforest and the Pitons.
  • Anyone who would rather not think about the bill once they arrive.
  • Walkers and hikers, since the interior gives you somewhere to go.
  • People who can travel in May, when the price and the weather both work.

Travelling in January? Our Caribbean in January guide compares St Lucia with Barbados, Antigua and Jamaica on official January weather averages and January prices.

Who might prefer something else

  • Prefer the classic white-sand Caribbean beach? Antigua’s are more reliably that, and our Antigua all-inclusive runs the same seven nights.
  • If budget is the deciding factor, our Jamaica all-inclusive starts at £1,599 per person and gives you eight nights rather than seven.
  • Want nightlife and a developed strip? St Lucia is quieter and more spread out than Jamaica’s resort towns.
  • If you will not leave the resort at all, you are paying for scenery you will not see, and a flatter island would cost you less.
  • If your only free dates are inside hurricane season and that worries you, look at a destination outside the Atlantic basin entirely.
  • Want to see the alternatives? Our full range of beach holidays is worth a look before you decide.
  • Something similar? Our 7 Nights Barbados All-Inclusive Escape is the closest thing we sell to this one.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A sea-view, swim-up or suite room category
  • Premium economy or business class on the transatlantic sector
  • Airport transfers, which are not included
  • A honeymoon or anniversary arrangement, requested with the hotel
  • Excursions — the Pitons, Sulphur Springs, a catamaran day or a rainforest walk
  • Extra nights, or a night either side in a different part of the island

What is not included?

  • Airport transfers. St Lucia’s airport can be a long, winding drive from a resort, so this is worth arranging rather than leaving to chance.
  • Excursions, including the Pitons, Sulphur Springs and any boat trip.
  • Spa treatments, which no all-inclusive board covers.
  • Travel insurance, which on these dates should cover weather disruption specifically.
  • Anything outside the resort’s all-inclusive arrangement, which we confirm in writing.

How do you get there?

The package lists return UK flights. Any supplement for a regional departure is confirmed at enquiry — we will not promise a specific airport or carrier here.

Transfers are not included and matter here more than on a flat island. St Lucia’s roads are mountainous and winding, and the drive from the airport to a resort can take considerably longer than the distance suggests. Arrange it in advance rather than on arrival.

St Lucia is four hours behind the UK in winter and five during British Summer Time. Flying west means the outbound day is long and the return overnight — the usual transatlantic pattern.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026.

British passport holders need no visa, but St Lucia grants a maximum of six weeks on entry — not the 90 days most Caribbean islands give. It is far more than a fortnight’s holiday needs, but do not assume the regional norm applies here.

Your passport needs an expiry date after the day you leave, which is unusually relaxed — no six-month rule.

An online immigration form must be completed no more than three days before arrival; otherwise an electronic or paper form is required on arrival. A yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a transmission risk.

Practicalities worth knowing

The sea deserves respect. GOV.UK warns that currents can be deceptively strong and that not all beaches have lifeguards or warning flags. That is a real caution on this island rather than boilerplate — check with your resort before swimming off an unfamiliar beach.

Avoid isolated beaches after dark, which is GOV.UK’s advice and worth following.

Hurricane season means monitoring, not avoiding. If you travel between June and November, follow local news and weather reports, and know your resort’s procedure.

The island is slow to cross. Mountains and winding roads mean a trip to the other end is most of a day, not an hour. Plan one big excursion rather than three small ones.

It rains, and that is the point. St Lucia is green because it gets weather. Expect short heavy showers even in dry months, and do not treat one as a ruined day.

Driving is on the left, which helps, but the roads are narrow, steep and busy with minibuses. Most visitors are better served by a driver for a day than by a hire car for a week, and we can arrange one.

The currency is the East Caribbean dollar, pegged to the US dollar, and US dollars are widely accepted. Cards work in resorts and larger restaurants; smaller places and roadside stalls are cash.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing. September is the cheapest month and it is inside hurricane season. May is the cheapest month outside it, and it is the one we would put you in.

Frequently asked questions

From £1,699 per person, reduced from £2,170, for seven nights at the Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa or similar with all-inclusive meals, drinks and entertainment and return UK flights. September is cheapest and February dearest.

Because it is inside hurricane season. GOV.UK puts the Caribbean hurricane season at June to November, and September sits in the middle of it. The low price is that risk priced in, not a bargain we found. Most September holidays pass without incident.

May. It is the cheapest month on the holiday that falls outside hurricane season altogether, and it sits at the dry end of the year. Every cheaper month is inside the season; every other month outside it costs more.

GOV.UK states it normally runs from June to November. It does not name a peak period within that window, so we will not claim one. If you travel in those months, follow local news and weather reports and know your resort's procedure.

Not necessarily. Most holidays in those months happen without incident and the island is quieter and greener. If your dates are fixed inside the season, travel and buy insurance that covers weather disruption properly rather than a basic policy.

The Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa or similar. Where a package says "or similar" we confirm the actual property in writing before you pay, against your dates. If a specific resort matters to you, name it and we will price it.

The package confirms all-inclusive meals, drinks and entertainment. What sits inside that at a given resort — premium spirits, speciality restaurants, motorised watersports — varies, so we confirm the detail in writing.

A maximum of six weeks, which is the detail most people get wrong. Most Caribbean islands grant 90 days; St Lucia does not. It is far more than a week's holiday needs, but do not assume the regional norm applies. Checked against GOV.UK on 17 September 2026.

No. British passport holders need no visa for St Lucia. Your passport only needs an expiry date after the day you leave, which is unusually relaxed — there is no six-month rule as there is on many Caribbean islands.

Yes. An online immigration form must be completed no more than three days before you arrive — not earlier, which catches people out. Otherwise an electronic or paper form is required on arrival instead.

Only if you are arriving from a country with a yellow fever transmission risk. Travelling directly from the UK, you do not. If your itinerary routes through South America or parts of Africa, check before you fly.

Good rather than the best in the Caribbean, and many are dark volcanic sand rather than white. St Lucia trades on scenery — the Pitons, rainforest and mountains — rather than on beaches. For classic white sand, Antigua or Barbados deliver more reliably.

With care. GOV.UK warns that currents can be deceptively strong and that not all beaches have lifeguards or warning flags. Check with your resort before swimming off an unfamiliar beach, and avoid isolated beaches after dark.

Two volcanic spires rising straight out of the sea on the south-west coast, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are the image on every postcard of St Lucia and they are more impressive in person than in photographs. Excursions there are not included.

No, and they matter more here than on most islands. St Lucia is mountainous with winding roads, so the drive from the airport to a resort can take considerably longer than the distance suggests. Arrange it in advance rather than on arrival.

It is what the island trades on and it earns the reputation — the scenery does most of the work. Tell us when you book and we will request a honeymoon arrangement with the hotel, though what any property offers varies and is never guaranteed in advance.

More than on most Caribbean islands. Rainforest hikes and waterfalls, the Sulphur Springs drive-in volcanic crater at Soufrière, and boat trips along the west coast to the Pitons. None is included in the package price.

Longer than the map suggests. Mountains and winding roads mean a trip to the far end is most of a day rather than an hour. Plan one substantial excursion rather than three small ones, and factor the drive into any day out.

It rains more than a flat Caribbean island, and that is exactly why it is green and mountainous. Expect short heavy showers even in the drier months. They pass quickly and a shower is not a ruined day.

St Lucia is four hours behind the UK in winter and five during British Summer Time. Flying west means a long outbound day and an overnight return, which is the usual transatlantic pattern rather than anything specific to this island.

Ninety-nine pounds per person, with the balance due before travel. The holiday is ATOL 10713 protected and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. Prices are per person, based on two people sharing.

Our Jamaica all-inclusive starts per person and gives you eight nights rather than seven. It is a flatter, busier island with a more developed resort scene, so it is a genuinely different holiday rather than the same one for less.
