Planning your USA holiday
The USA is not one holiday, it is a dozen. A long weekend in New York is a different trip, a different budget and a different time of year from two weeks pairing Los Angeles with the Caribbean. This is how we split it.
One country, several completely different trips
Most people arrive at the USA with a city in mind rather than a country. That is the right instinct, because the practical decisions — how long, what it costs, when to go — are driven by which cities you pick and how you join them, not by the destination as a whole.
Three shapes cover most of what we book. A short city break, almost always New York, at three to five nights. A multi-city run across the country, typically New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, at ten to twelve nights. Or a city paired with a beach — New York with Barbados or Cancún, Miami with St Lucia or Jamaica — which is where the majority of our longer USA bookings land.
When is the best time to visit the USA?
There is no single answer, because the country spans several climates. The honest version is by region.
- New York and the east coast. April to June and September to early November are the comfortable months. July and August are hot and humid; December has the Christmas markets and the crowds that come with them.
- Florida. November to April is the dry season and the reason it is busy. Hurricane season officially runs June to November.
- California and the west. Reliable most of the year. Spring and autumn give the best balance of weather and price.
- Las Vegas. Spring and autumn. Midsummer regularly clears 40°C, which is a great deal less fun than it sounds.
If you are pairing a US city with the Caribbean, the Caribbean leg usually decides the date rather than the city.
What does a USA holiday cost?
Across our current packages, USA-inclusive holidays run from £699pp to £2,399pp depending on the month, the number of nights and how many cities are involved. Those are real figures from live 2026 and 2027 departures, not indicative ranges.
- New York city break, three to five nights, from £699pp.
- City and beach twin-centre, seven to ten nights, from £1,149pp.
- Multi-city or multi-centre, ten to fourteen nights, from £1,299pp.
What moves the number most is the season and the internal flights. A twelve-night itinerary crossing the country carries two or three domestic sectors, and those are what separate an otherwise similar pair of quotes.
How we plan it
We build the itinerary around the nights, not the other way round. For a multi-city trip that means deciding how long each city genuinely earns — New York rewards more nights than Las Vegas does for most people — and then fixing the internal flights before anything else, because they constrain the rest.
The night split, the hotels, the internal sectors and the transfers are all confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
Getting around
Distances are the thing British travellers most often underestimate. New York to Los Angeles is roughly six hours in the air, not a drive you fit into an afternoon. Any coast-to-coast itinerary needs internal flights, and we build those into the package rather than leaving you to add them later.
Within cities, New York is walkable and has the subway. Los Angeles effectively requires a car or ride-hailing. Las Vegas is walkable along the Strip and deceptive about it — the blocks are much longer than they look.
Entry requirements for UK travellers
British passport holders travelling for tourism normally enter under the Visa Waiver Programme, which requires an approved ESTA before departure. Apply through the official US government site rather than a third-party service, and do it well ahead of travel rather than at the airport.
Requirements change, and they are set by the US authorities rather than by us. Check the current position on the FCDO’s USA entry requirements page before you book, and again before you fly.
New York, and what to pair it with
New York is the most-booked single element of our USA programme, and it pairs unusually well because the flight time from the UK is short enough that you are not spending a day of the holiday getting there.
The three pairings we arrange most often are New York with Cancún, New York with Barbados, and New York as the first leg of a coast-to-coast run through Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Each is a genuinely different holiday, and the right one depends on whether you want a second city or a beach at the end.
Practical tips
- Domestic US flights charge for checked bags far more often than transatlantic ones. Ask what is included before assuming.
- Quoted US hotel rates frequently exclude a resort or destination fee charged at the property. We confirm in writing what is and is not in your price.
- Tipping is customary and is a real part of the daily budget, not an optional extra.
- Time differences are large enough to matter: New York is five hours behind the UK, Los Angeles eight.
Who is the USA right for?
It suits travellers who want a city at the centre of the holiday rather than a resort, and who are comfortable moving between places. It suits first-time long-haul travellers well, because New York is a short flight and everything is in English.
It suits you less if you want one hotel, one beach and nothing to organise. For that, the Caribbean or the Indian Ocean will give you a better fortnight for the money — and if you want both, the twin-centres above are exactly that compromise.
USA FAQs
Our current USA-inclusive packages run from £699 per person to £2,399, depending on the month, the number of nights and how many cities are involved. A three to five night New York break starts at £699; a ten to fourteen night multi-city or twin-centre itinerary starts higher because of the internal flights.
British passport holders travelling for tourism normally enter under the Visa Waiver Programme, which requires an approved ESTA obtained before departure. Apply on the official US government site rather than a third-party service. Requirements are set by the US authorities and change, so check the FCDO USA entry requirements page before booking and again before you fly.
London to New York is roughly eight hours. London to Los Angeles is roughly eleven. Coast-to-coast within the USA adds about six hours in the air, which is why any multi-city itinerary needs internal flights built into it rather than added afterwards.
It depends on the region rather than the country. April to June and September to early November suit New York and the east coast. November to April is Florida’s dry season. California is reliable most of the year, with spring and autumn giving the best balance of weather and price. Las Vegas is best in spring and autumn; midsummer regularly clears 40°C.
Yes, and it is how most of our longer USA holidays are built. New York with Cancún or Barbados, and Miami with St Lucia or Jamaica, are the pairings we arrange most often. The Caribbean leg usually decides the travel dates rather than the US city.
