The experience

Bali in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to Bali costs from £929 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 6, 8 or 10 nights and return flights from London. October 2026 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does a Bali holiday include, and what does it cost?

Six, eight or ten nights at The Anvaya Beach Resort or similar. That covers return flights from London and your accommodation, with ATOL protection under licence 10713 and a £99 per person deposit to hold it. Regional UK departures are available at a supplement. Meals, tours, the Indonesian visa on arrival and the Bali tourist levy are not included, and the board basis is confirmed in writing at enquiry. It suits couples, honeymooners, families and anyone who wants a long-haul beach holiday with somewhere to go when the beach runs out.

Bali or the Maldives for a long-haul beach holiday?

This is the comparison most people are actually making, and it turns on a single question: how much do you want to do?

Factor Bali Maldives
What you do Temples, rice terraces, surf, volcanoes, markets The beach, the reef, the room
Getting around Drivers and scooters; the island is yours You are on one island until you leave
Cost once there Low — eating and travelling are cheap High; the resort sets the prices
Best for Explorers, families, longer stays Honeymoons and doing nothing

Bali is the better value and the more interesting island. The Maldives is the better beach and the quieter holiday. If you have ten nights and would get restless on an atoll after four, Bali is the one.

What you will actually see

Ubud is the cultural centre, an hour or so inland, and the reason many people extend. Terraced rice fields, the monkey forest, craft villages and a food scene that has outgrown the island. The rice terraces at Tegalalang are the photograph; going early is what makes them bearable.

Tanah Lot and Uluwatu are the two temples worth the drive. Tanah Lot sits on a rock offshore and is built around sunset; Uluwatu is on a cliff at the southern tip with a kecak fire dance performed as the light goes. Both are busy and both are still worth it.

Nusa Penida is the optional day trip — a rugged island off the south-east coast reached by fast boat, with the cliff viewpoints that fill Bali’s share of the internet. It is a long day and the crossing can be rough, so it suits some people and not others.

Around the resort, the south coast beaches are the working part of Bali: surf schools, beach clubs and sunset bars, with Seminyak and Canggu the two names you will hear most.

How many nights should you book?

Six nights is the shortest that makes the flight worth it. Bali is a long way and the journey is not direct from the UK, so you lose the best part of two days to travel. Six leaves four clear.

Eight nights is the sensible middle, and the one most people should take. It gives you the beach, one full day inland at Ubud, and a temple sunset, without the trip feeling like a schedule.

Ten nights is where Bali starts to pay you back. You can split the stay — a few nights in Ubud and the rest on the coast — without losing beach days to the move. If you have the leave, take it.

When is the best time to go?

June is the cheapest month, and it is also in the dry season, which is the combination you want and do not always get. Bali’s dry season runs roughly April to October, so June, July and August are the reliable months for weather.

December is the most expensive per person and also the wettest part of the year. That is the worst of both, and worth knowing before you fix dates around the school holidays.

Month Notes
June Cheapest, and dry season
May, July, September Dry season, good value
October End of the dry season
August Dry, but peak for crowds
November Rains returning
December Dearest, and wettest

What changes your price?

  • The month. June at its cheapest against December at its dearest on the same holiday. Nothing else you choose moves the price as far.
  • Nights. Six, eight or ten are all available; the shortest stay is the cheapest of them.
  • Departure airport. Priced from London, with regional departures at a supplement confirmed at enquiry.
  • Resort and room grade. The Anvaya or similar is the standard. Pool villas, upgraded categories and different areas of the island are quoted individually.
  • Where you stay. Splitting the stay between Ubud and the coast changes the price as well as the holiday.

Who this holiday suits

  • Travellers who want a long-haul beach holiday with an island attached, rather than a resort and nothing else.
  • Couples and honeymooners who would like a few days inland as well as on the sand.
  • Families, because Bali is cheap once you are there and there is plenty to fill days with.
  • Anyone whose budget will not stretch to the Maldives but who wants the same flight length to feel worthwhile.
  • People happy to use a driver for a day at a time rather than stay in one place.

Who might prefer something else

  • Want to do nothing at all? The Maldives does that better and the Seychelles better still. Bali is busy and Bali has traffic.
  • If your dates are fixed to December or January, that is the wet season and the most expensive time. June to September is a different holiday.
  • If you dislike long flights, this is not direct from the UK and the journey is long in both directions.
  • Prefer everything paid for up front? An all-inclusive Caribbean or Mauritius week suits that model better.
  • Prefer a second country? Our Singapore and Bali twin-centre adds a city at the start rather than a longer stay here.
  • Not sure this is the one? Browse our other beach holidays and tell us what appeals.
  • If this is nearly right, look at our 7 or 10 Nights Mauritius All-Inclusive Escape (Indian Ocean) too before you decide.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A private pool villa or a higher room category
  • A split stay between Ubud and the coast
  • Extra nights at either end
  • Private drivers for temple and Ubud days
  • Airport transfers arranged in advance rather than on arrival
  • A Singapore or Kuala Lumpur stopover on the way out or back

Getting there

Flights are from London with a connection, since there is no direct service from the UK. Regional departures are available at a supplement confirmed at enquiry. Bali is eight hours ahead of the UK in winter and seven during British Summer Time.

On the island, distances take longer than the map suggests — traffic in the south is heavy and the road to Ubud is slow. A driver for the day is inexpensive and is how most visitors get around; scooters are everywhere but are not something to try for the first time on holiday.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026. We re-confirm before you travel.

British passport holders need a visa on arrival, costing 500,000 IDR, valid 30 days and extendable once. Your passport must be valid for six months from arrival and have at least two blank pages, and you will need proof of onward travel.

There is also an online customs declaration to complete within 72 hours of arrival, and a Bali tourist levy of 150,000 IDR payable separately. Neither is included in the package price. Together they are not a large sum, but they are two more things to do rather than one.

What is not included?

The package covers the essentials, so it is worth being explicit about what sits outside the price rather than leaving you to infer it.

  • The Indonesian visa on arrival, 500,000 rupiah per person, paid at the airport.
  • The Bali tourist levy, a further 150,000 rupiah, charged separately.
  • The online customs declaration, which is free but must be completed within 72 hours of arrival.
  • Meals beyond whatever board basis applies, which we confirm in writing before you pay.
  • Tours, drivers and day trips — Ubud, the temples and Nusa Penida are all arranged locally or by us in advance, and none is in the lead-in price.
  • Travel insurance, which you should hold before you travel rather than after.

None of these is large individually. Together they are worth building into your budget at the point of booking rather than discovering at the airport.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing,. Prices are per person based on two sharing and are the ones we hold today; long-haul fares move as seats sell, and June dates in particular go early because they are both the cheapest and among the best for weather.

Frequently asked questions

From £859 per person for six, eight or ten nights, reduced from £1,100, including return flights from London and your resort stay. June is the cheapest month and December the most expensive. Your exact figure depends on your dates, nights and departure airport, and is confirmed at enquiry.

June, which is both the cheapest month here per person and squarely inside the dry season. Bali's dry season runs roughly April to October, so June through September give you reliable weather. December is the most expensive and also the wettest, which is the worst combination of the two.

Eight is the sensible middle and what most people should take — enough for the beach, a full day inland at Ubud and a temple sunset without it feeling like a schedule. Six is the shortest that justifies the flight. Ten lets you split the stay between Ubud and the coast without losing beach days.

The honest test is how much you want to do. Bali is £859 per person against £1,369 for our Maldives package, and it gives you temples, rice terraces, volcanoes and markets. The Maldives gives you a better beach and a much quieter holiday. If you would get restless on an atoll after four days, Bali is the one.

Yes. British passport holders need a visa on arrival costing 500,000 Indonesian rupiah, valid 30 days and extendable once. Your passport must be valid six months from arrival with at least two blank pages, and you will need proof of onward travel. Checked against GOV.UK on 17 September 2026.

A charge of 150,000 Indonesian rupiah paid by visitors, separate from the visa on arrival and not included in the package price. There is also an online customs declaration to complete within 72 hours of arriving. Neither is a large sum, but both are extra steps worth knowing about before you land.

No, there is no direct service, so the journey involves a connection and takes most of a day in each direction. That is part of why six nights is the shortest stay we would recommend — a shorter trip spends too much of itself travelling.

A great deal, which is the main argument for choosing it. Ubud has rice terraces, the monkey forest and craft villages. Tanah Lot and Uluwatu are temples built around sunset. Nusa Penida is a day trip by fast boat to cliff viewpoints. The south coast has surf schools and beach clubs.

On the south coast, which is the part of Bali set up for beach holidays — surf schools, beach clubs and sunset bars, with Seminyak and Canggu nearby. Our packages use The Anvaya or a similar property, and alternative resorts and areas of the island can be quoted against your dates.

Your meal arrangement is confirmed in writing at enquiry, so you know exactly what is covered before you pay. Ask when you enquire and we will tell you exactly what is covered.

Yes, and on ten nights it is the better trip. A few nights inland at Ubud followed by the rest on the coast gives you both sides of the island without losing beach days to the move. It changes the price as well as the holiday, so we quote it against your dates.

A driver for the day, which is inexpensive and how most visitors do it. Distances take longer than the map suggests because traffic in the south is heavy and the road to Ubud is slow. Scooters are everywhere, but a holiday is not the place to learn to ride one.

Yes, and it is one of the better long-haul options for them. It is cheap once you are there, there is plenty to fill days with beyond the pool, and drivers make day trips straightforward. The limits are the flight length and the connection, which are hard work with very young children.

Bali is eight hours ahead of the UK in winter and seven during British Summer Time. Combined with the flight length and a connection, that means a real adjustment in both directions — another reason six nights is the shortest stay worth booking.

For the cliff viewpoints, yes, but go in knowing it is a long day and the fast-boat crossing can be rough. It is the source of most of the dramatic Bali photographs you have seen. If anyone in your party is prone to seasickness, it is worth thinking twice about.

Less than for most long-haul beach destinations. Eating, drinking and getting around in Bali are genuinely cheap by UK standards, which is part of why the island suits longer stays. The exceptions are the beach clubs in Seminyak and Canggu, which price like anywhere else.

The price is quoted from London. Regional UK departures are available at a supplement that varies by airport, airline and date, so we confirm the figure for your dates rather than publish an estimate. All routings involve at least one connection.

Ninety-nine pounds per person, with the balance due before travel. The holiday is ATOL 10713 protected and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. Prices are per person, based on two people sharing.

Yes. We run a Singapore and Bali twin-centre as a separate package, and a stopover can also be added to this one on the way out or back. Both are priced against your dates rather than sold at a standard supplement, so tell us what you have in mind.

The south is, particularly in August and around the main temples at sunset. Ubud is busy in the middle of the day and much calmer early. If crowds are a concern, going in June rather than August helps, and so does starting temple visits before the coaches arrive.

Roughly November to March, with rain typically arriving in heavy afternoon bursts rather than lasting all day. It is not a washout, but it is the wetter half of the year and it coincides with the most expensive prices here, which is why we point people to June to September instead.

Early for June, because it is both the cheapest month and one of the best for weather, so those dates sell first. Long-haul fares move as seats go and rarely come back down. If your dates are flexible, booking early in a cheaper month beats booking late in an expensive one.
