The experience

Mauritius in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to Mauritius costs from £1,599 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 7 or 10 nights, all-inclusive and return flights from London. October 2026 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does this Mauritius holiday include, and what does it cost?

Seven or 10 nights at the Solana Beach Mauritius or similar 4★ on an all-inclusive basis with return flights from London and private return airport transfers. ATOL protection under licence 10713 applies and a £99 per person deposit holds it. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement confirmed at enquiry. June is the cheapest month and December the dearest. Excursions, car hire, travel insurance and anything beyond the all-inclusive arrangement are not included. Mauritius is visa-free for British passport holders for stays of up to 60 days.

Why does this cost more than your other Mauritius all-inclusive?

A fair question, and we would rather answer it than hope nobody asks.

We run two all-inclusive holidays at the same resort — the Solana Beach Mauritius or similar 4★ — with the same board and the same private transfers. This one leads in. The other leads in and also offers 12 nights, which this one does not.

For most of the year, the other is the one to book. The holiday earns its place in four months:

Month Which of the two to ask about
April This one — it is the only Mauritius holiday we sell with April dates
July, August, December This one is usually the cheaper of the two
Every other month Our other all-inclusive at the same resort is usually cheaper

April is where the holiday earns its place. It is the only Mauritius holiday in our programme with April dates, and April sits at the tail of the hot, wet season as it turns. Beyond that, if your dates fall in July, August or December, this is the cheaper of the two — and if they fall anywhere else, the other one is.

We will quote whichever comes out lower for your dates without being asked. You do not need to work this out yourself.

When should you go to Mauritius?

June, on the holiday as on the other, and for the same reason.

Mauritius is in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons invert. Its winter runs roughly May to October and is the drier, cooler, less humid half of the year. Its summer, from November, is hot and wet.

The detail that catches people out is the cyclone season. GOV.UK puts it at November to May — later into the year than most travellers assume. June is the first month fully clear of it, and June is also the cheapest month here.

That makes June the obvious choice: the lowest price of the year, dry weather and no cyclone risk. The trade is temperature, because Mauritian winter is warm rather than hot and the evenings want a layer.

If your dates are fixed in April, understand what you are buying — the end of the wet season, still inside the cyclone window, and the highest price on the holiday apart from December.

What you will actually do

The lagoon is the reason people come back. A coral reef rings the island, so the water inside is shallow, still and the colour it looks in photographs. It suits weak swimmers and small children in a way open-sea destinations do not.

The interior is the part most all-inclusive guests never see. Mauritius is mountainous and green inland, with Black River Gorges, the coloured earths at Chamarel, waterfalls and working tea plantations.

Port Louis has a central market that is genuinely a market rather than a display, and a mix of Indian, Creole, Chinese and French influence that comes through most clearly in the food.

The water beyond swimming — diving, snorkelling, catamaran trips and kitesurfing in the windier winter months, particularly July.

Le Morne, the mountain on the south-western peninsula, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and not for the reason most visitors assume. It was a refuge for escaped slaves, and it is listed for that history rather than for the view. The beach beneath it is among the best on the island and the water off it is where the kitesurfers go.

The north around Grand Baie is the developed, sociable end of Mauritius — restaurants, bars, boat trips and shops, busier and louder than the east coast. It is the counterweight to a resort holiday if a week of the same beach starts to feel long.

The dodo is worth ten minutes of your time at the Natural History Museum in Port Louis. Mauritius is the only place the bird ever lived and the only place it was wiped out, within about a century of Europeans arriving. It is on the national coat of arms, which is a peculiar thing to put there.

What changes your price?

  • The month. June at its cheapest against December at its dearest, for the same resort and the same board.
  • Seven nights or 10. Both are available on the holiday and priced separately.
  • Which of our two Mauritius all-inclusives fits your dates, since they cross over month by month.
  • Departure airport. Priced from London, with regional UK airports at a supplement confirmed at enquiry.
  • Cabin and room category. On a flight of about 12 hours each way, premium cabins move the total considerably.

Who this holiday suits

  • Anyone whose dates fall in April — this is the only Mauritius holiday we sell with them.
  • Travellers going in July, August or December, where this is the cheaper of our two all-inclusive options.
  • Couples and honeymooners who want the beach to be the entire holiday.
  • People who would rather not think about the bill after arrival, since the all-inclusive board is confirmed in the package.
  • Families with small children or nervous swimmers, because of the reef and the calm lagoon.

Who might prefer something else

  • If your dates fall outside April, July, August or December, our other Mauritius all-inclusive at the same resort starts at £1,399 per person and will almost certainly be cheaper.
  • Prefer 12 nights? The holiday does not offer them and the other one does.
  • If you are travelling as a family on a budget, our Mauritius Family Getaway starts at £1,099 per person.
  • If a beach for a week is not enough, the Mauritius, Singapore and Bali multi-centre covers three countries in one trip.
  • If you can only travel in December or January, that is the wet season at the top of the price range, and northern-hemisphere winter sun will serve you better.
  • Want to see the alternatives? Our full range of beach holidays is worth a look before you decide.
  • Something similar? Our 7, 10 or 12 Nights Mauritius All-Inclusive Beach Escape is the closest thing we sell to this one.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A sea-view, beachfront or upper-category room
  • Premium economy or business class on a long overnight sector
  • Ten nights rather than seven
  • A catamaran cruise, diving, or a guided tour of the south and the interior
  • A honeymoon or anniversary arrangement, requested with the hotel
  • Car hire, which is the only way to see the interior on your own terms

What is not included?

  • Excursions and watersports beyond what the resort’s all-inclusive arrangement covers.
  • Travel insurance, which carries a specific catch in cyclone season.
  • Car hire, fuel and parking.
  • Premium spirits, spa treatments and speciality restaurants, depending on the resort.
  • Regional departures, available at a supplement confirmed at enquiry.

How do you get there?

Flights are from London and take about 12 hours non-stop. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement, and the exact routing and carrier are confirmed at enquiry rather than promised here.

Private return airport transfers are included, which is not true of every long-haul package we sell and is worth having at the end of a sector that length.

Mauritius is UTC+4 — four hours ahead of the UK in winter, three during British Summer Time. It does not observe daylight saving, and sources quoting a flat four hours all year are wrong for the BST months.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026.

British passport holders need no visa for stays of up to 60 days, and your passport is stamped with the date the stay ends. It must be valid for the duration of your stay and carry one blank page.

The Mauritius All in One travel form must be completed online before arrival; print the QR code for the airport. Proof of onward or return travel is required. GOV.UK states no entry or visa fee.

Practicalities worth knowing

Cyclones and insurance. GOV.UK notes that during a cyclone residents must stay indoors and that insurance cover may lapse. April travellers are inside that window. Read the policy on this point before buying it.

Pack reef shoes. The coral that makes the lagoon calm also makes bare feet a bad idea in shallow water, and sea urchins are common.

July is the windy month. Good for kitesurfers, less good for anyone wanting flat, still water every day.

The food deserves a night out. Creole, Indian, Chinese and French traditions have been on this island together for generations. An all-inclusive board makes it easy never to test that, which is a waste.

The island is smaller than it feels. Mauritius is roughly 40 miles by 30, so nowhere is more than about two hours from anywhere else. Distances are not the constraint on a day out — the roads and the traffic around Port Louis are, and journeys take longer than the map suggests.

Languages. English is the official language and is what you will see on signage and official paperwork, but French and Mauritian Creole are what people actually speak day to day. Hotel staff work in English without difficulty; a French phrase or two goes further outside the resorts.

Modesty away from the beach. Swimwear is for the resort and the sand. Mauritius is a religiously mixed and fairly conservative society, and covering up for Port Louis, the markets or any temple or mosque is expected rather than optional.

Sun strength. The island sits well inside the tropics and the UV index is high even in the cooler winter months, when it does not feel strong enough to matter. It is the dry, breezy June and July days that catch people out, not the obviously hot ones.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing. June is the best month on the holiday. If your dates are flexible and fall outside April, July, August or December, ask us about the other Mauritius all-inclusive as well — we will quote both.

Frequently asked questions

From £1,449 per person, reduced from £1,850, for seven or 10 nights at a 4★ beach resort with return London flights, private transfers and all-inclusive board. June is cheapest and December dearest. Your figure depends on dates, nights and departure airport.

Because their monthly prices cross over. This one is cheaper in July, August and December, and it is the only one with April dates. The other leads in and is cheaper in every other shared month. We quote whichever is lower for your dates.

If you are travelling in April, July, August or December, this one. If your dates fall anywhere else, or you want 12 nights, the other. You do not need to work it out — tell us your dates and we will price both and quote the lower.

Yes, and this is the only Mauritius holiday in our programme with April dates, per person. Be clear on what that buys: the tail of the hot, wet season, still inside the cyclone window, at the second-highest price on the holiday.

June, here. It is the cheapest month on the holiday, it falls in the dry southern-hemisphere winter, and it is the first month of the year clear of cyclone season. Price and weather agree, which is unusual on a beach holiday.

GOV.UK puts it at November to May, which runs later than most travellers expect. During a cyclone residents are required to stay indoors and insurance cover may lapse, so check your policy on that point if your dates fall in those months.

Warm rather than hot. June is Mauritian winter — dry, sunny, lower humidity and cool enough in the evening for a layer. Maximum heat means the wet summer months, which are also the most expensive on the holiday.

The Solana Beach Mauritius or similar 4★. Where a property is listed as "or similar" we confirm the actual resort in writing before you pay, against your dates. For a named resort rather than the lead-in, tell us and we will price it.

The package is confirmed as all-inclusive. What sits inside it — premium spirits, speciality restaurants, motorised watersports — varies by resort, so we confirm the detail in writing against your chosen property before you pay.

Yes. Private return airport transfers are part of the package. That is not the case on every long-haul holiday we sell, and after about 12 hours in the air it is worth more than it sounds.

About 12 hours non-stop from London. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement. We confirm the exact routing and carrier at enquiry rather than naming an airline or a London airport here.

Mauritius is UTC+4 — four hours ahead of the UK in winter and three during British Summer Time. It does not observe daylight saving. Many sources quote a flat four hours year-round, which is wrong for the BST months.

No. British passport holders get up to 60 days visa-free and the passport is stamped with the end date. It must be valid for the duration of your stay and have one blank page. Checked against GOV.UK on 17 September 2026.

Yes — the Mauritius All in One travel form, completed online before arrival. Print the QR code it produces for the airport. Proof of onward or return travel is required at the border as well.

Not on the holiday — seven or 10 nights only. Our other Mauritius all-inclusive at the same resort offers seven, 10 or 12 and leads in, so if a longer stay is what you want, that is the one to ask about.

Unusually good. A coral reef rings the island, so the lagoon inside it is shallow and still rather than open sea. Pack reef shoes though — the same coral makes bare feet a poor idea in shallow water, and sea urchins are common.

Plenty, and most all-inclusive guests never find out. Black River Gorges, the coloured earths at Chamarel, waterfalls and tea plantations fill the mountainous interior, and Port Louis has a working central market. You need a car or a guide for any of it.

July is the UK school holiday, so British demand drives the price rather than Mauritian weather. At £1,499 here it is still below December. July is also the windiest month, which kitesurfers like and anyone wanting flat water does not.

It is the wet season, inside cyclone season, and the most expensive month on the holiday. If your dates are fixed it works, but June gives you better weather for less. It is also cheaper here than on our other Mauritius all-inclusive.

Ninety-nine pounds per person, with the balance due before travel. The holiday is ATOL 10713 protected and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. Prices are per person, based on two people sharing.

Our Mauritius Family Getaway leads in per person and our other all-inclusive at this resort. Both are worth asking about if budget is the deciding factor — the family holiday in particular sits well below everything else we sell on the island.

April dates are the scarce thing here, since no other Mauritius holiday we sell has them. June is the best-value month and moves quickly. If you need a specific resort rather than the "or similar" lead-in, book earlier — there is less flexibility on that than on dates.
