The experience

Mauritius in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to Mauritius costs from £1,749 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 7 or 10 nights and return flights from London. October 2026 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does this Mauritius holiday include, and what does it cost?

Seven or 10 nights at the LUX Belle Mare, Long Beach, or similar 5★ with return flights from London and private airport transfers. ATOL protection under licence 10713 applies and a £99 per person deposit holds it. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement confirmed at enquiry. June is the cheapest month and December the dearest. Excursions, car hire, spa treatments and travel insurance are not included, and the meal arrangement is confirmed in writing before you pay. Mauritius is visa-free for British passport holders for up to 60 days.

What makes this the 5★ option?

The resorts, and this is one of the few holidays in our programme where we can name them.

LUX Belle Mare sits on the east coast on one of the longest stretches of white sand on the island, and was redesigned by Kelly Hoppen. Long Beach is on the same coast, larger and more contemporary, and works better for families than its name suggests.

The east coast matters here. It is the quieter, less developed side of Mauritius — fewer bars, fewer boat touts, a longer drive from the airport and from Port Louis. People who want Grand Baie’s restaurants and nightlife should say so, because this is the opposite end of the island in both geography and character.

Against our 4★ Mauritius holidays the step up is real but the price gap is narrower than most people expect. This leads in. Our 4★ all-inclusive holidays lead in, and our family holiday. For a named 5★ property on the best beach on the island, that is a small distance in money and a large one in what you get.

What is included at mealtimes?

Your meal arrangement is confirmed in writing, against your dates and your chosen resort, before you pay anything beyond the deposit.

That matters more here than on a cheaper holiday. Across ten nights at a 5★ Mauritian resort the gap between room only and half board is a serious sum, and both resorts have several restaurants — so the right arrangement depends on how you actually want to eat.

Tell us when you enquire and we will price the options side by side: room only if you want to explore the island’s restaurants, half board if you want dinner settled, full board or all-inclusive if you would rather not think about it at all.

When should you go to Mauritius?

June, and the pricing agrees.

Mauritius is in the southern hemisphere so the seasons invert. Its winter, roughly May to October, is drier, cooler and less humid. Its summer from November is hot and wet.

The fact travellers most often miss is the cyclone season. GOV.UK puts it at November to May, running later into the year than expected. June is the first month fully clear of it, and June is also the cheapest month on the holiday.

Month Worth knowing
June Cheapest, dry, first month clear of cyclones
May Dry and warm, but still inside cyclone season
September Dry, warming, consistently good
July Coolest and windiest; UK school holiday demand
October Excellent before the humidity builds
August Dry winter, UK holiday premium
November Cyclone season reopens
January Hot, wet, peak cyclone risk
February As January
December Dearest of the year, and the wet season

June is the whole argument. It is the cheapest month, the weather is dry and the cyclone risk has passed. The trade is temperature — Mauritian winter is warm rather than hot, and evenings want a layer.

What you will actually do

The east coast beaches. Belle Mare is a long, wide, uninterrupted stretch of white sand with a shallow lagoon in front of it, and it is the reason the 5★ resorts cluster here.

Île aux Cerfs is a short boat ride offshore and the standard day out from this coast — a small island with a beach, watersports and a golf course. It is busy, and worth going early.

The interior is mountainous and green: Black River Gorges, the coloured earths at Chamarel, waterfalls and working tea estates. Very few resort guests see any of it, which is a shame.

Golf. Mauritius has a real golf culture and the east coast has several championship courses, including one on Île aux Cerfs. Green fees are not included and are quoted separately.

Spa. Both named resorts have substantial spas, and treatments are not part of the package at any board basis.

The east coast is the windward side, which is why the kitesurfers are there and why it is a few degrees fresher than the west. On most days that is pleasant. On a breezy day in July the lagoon has chop on it and the west coast would have been calmer — worth knowing if flat water matters to you.

Both named resorts sit on their own stretch of beach, which on Belle Mare means a genuinely long walk in either direction rather than a cove. If you like walking before breakfast, this is one of the better coastlines in the Indian Ocean for it.

What changes your price?

  • The month. June at its cheapest against December at its dearest, for the same resorts.
  • Seven nights or 10. Both available and priced separately.
  • Which resort. The lead-in covers LUX Belle Mare, Long Beach or similar; a specific property is quoted against your dates.
  • The meal arrangement, which we confirm in writing and which changes the total materially over 10 nights.
  • Cabin and room category. On a flight of about 12 hours each way, and at a 5★ resort, both move the figure considerably.

Who this holiday suits

  • Honeymooners and couples marking an anniversary or a significant birthday.
  • Travellers who want a named 5★ property rather than an unspecified one.
  • Anyone who values a quiet coast over a lively one — the east is the calm side of the island.
  • Golfers, since the east coast is where the courses are.
  • People who can travel in June, September or October, when the price and the weather both work.

Who might prefer something else

  • Want all-inclusive as standard? Our two 4★ Mauritius holidays are all-inclusive without needing to be arranged.
  • Prefer nightlife and restaurants on the doorstep? The east coast is the wrong side of the island. Grand Baie in the north is where that is.
  • If you are travelling as a family on a budget, our Mauritius Family Getaway leads in.
  • If 5★ means butler service and a private pool as standard, that is a villa or a suite rather than this lead-in, and we will price it separately.
  • If you can only travel in December, this is the wet season — the most expensive month on the most expensive Mauritius holiday we sell.
  • Still weighing it up? Compare this against every one of our beach holidays.
  • If this is nearly right, look at our 7 or 10 Nights Mauritius Family Getaway – 4★ or 5★ Resorts too before you decide.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A sea-view, beachfront, suite or villa category
  • Premium economy or business class on a sector of about 12 hours
  • Ten nights rather than seven
  • A confirmed board arrangement, quoted in writing against your resort
  • A honeymoon or anniversary arrangement, requested with the hotel
  • Golf, spa treatments, diving, or a private guide for the interior

What is not included?

  • Meals beyond the arrangement we confirm in writing, which is the single most important line here.
  • Spa treatments and green fees, neither of which is part of any board basis.
  • Excursions, including Île aux Cerfs, the south island tour and anything in the interior.
  • Car hire, fuel and parking.
  • Travel insurance, which carries a specific catch in cyclone season.

How do you get there?

Flights are from London and take about 12 hours non-stop. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement, and the routing and carrier are confirmed at enquiry rather than named here.

Private airport transfers are included. That matters more on the holiday than on most, because the east coast is one of the longer drives from the airport and arriving off a sector that length without a car waiting is a poor start.

Mauritius is UTC+4 — four hours ahead of the UK in winter, three during British Summer Time. It does not observe daylight saving, and a flat “four hours” is wrong for the BST months.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026.

British passport holders need no visa for up to 60 days and the passport is stamped with the date the stay ends. It must be valid for the duration of the stay and carry one blank page.

The Mauritius All in One travel form is completed online before arrival; print the QR code for the airport. Proof of onward or return travel is required. GOV.UK states no entry or visa fee.

Practicalities worth knowing

Cyclones and insurance. GOV.UK notes that during a cyclone residents must stay indoors and that insurance cover may lapse. Anyone travelling November to May should read the policy on that specific point before buying it.

The east coast is quiet by design. That is its appeal and its limitation. Eating outside the resort means a drive, and taxis back after dinner need arranging rather than hailing.

Reef shoes. The coral that keeps the lagoon calm makes bare feet a bad idea in shallow water, and sea urchins are common.

Modesty away from the beach. Swimwear is for the resort and the sand. Mauritius is religiously mixed and fairly conservative, and covering up for markets, temples and Port Louis is expected.

Sun strength. The UV index is high even in the cool, breezy winter months when it does not feel strong. Those are the days that catch people, not the obviously hot ones.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing. June is the month to aim for. Ask us to confirm the board arrangement in writing when you enquire. It is the thing worth settling first.

Frequently asked questions

From £1,549 per person, reduced from £1,980, for seven or 10 nights at the LUX Belle Mare, Long Beach or similar 5★, with return London flights and private transfers. June is cheapest and December dearest.

The LUX Belle Mare, Long Beach, or similar 5★, both on the east coast. LUX Belle Mare was redesigned by Kelly Hoppen; Long Beach is larger and more contemporary. Where a package says "or similar" we confirm the actual property in writing before you pay.

Your meal arrangement is confirmed in writing against your dates and your chosen resort before you pay. Tell us how you want to eat and we will price the options side by side — room only, half board, full board or all-inclusive.

Because across ten nights at a 5★ Mauritian resort the gap between room only and half board is a serious sum, and both properties have several restaurants. Settling it at enquiry rather than at check-in is worth real money.

June, here. It is the cheapest month on the holiday, it sits in the dry southern-hemisphere winter, and it is the first month of the year clear of cyclone season. Price and weather line up, which is unusual.

GOV.UK puts it at November to May, later into the year than most travellers assume. During a cyclone residents are required to stay indoors and insurance cover may lapse, so read your policy on that point if your dates fall in those months.

It is the quieter, less developed side of the island, which is why the 5★ resorts cluster there. Fewer bars, fewer boat touts, a longer drive from the airport and from Port Louis. Want restaurants and nightlife on the doorstep? It is the wrong coast.

This leads in. Our 4★ all-inclusive holidays lead in, and the family holiday. For a named 5★ on the best beach on the island the gap is narrower than most people expect — though the board differs, as above.

It is one of the longest and widest stretches of white sand in Mauritius, with a shallow lagoon in front of it. That is precisely why the island's 5★ resorts are concentrated along this part of the east coast rather than elsewhere.

A small island a short boat ride off the east coast, and the standard day out from these resorts — beach, watersports and a golf course. It gets busy, so go early. The boat trip is not included in the package price.

Yes, and Mauritius has a genuine golf culture. The east coast has several championship courses including one on Île aux Cerfs. Green fees are not included at any board basis and are quoted separately when you enquire.

Yes, private airport transfers both ways. That matters more here than on most holidays, because the east coast is one of the longer drives from the airport and arriving off a 12-hour flight with no car waiting is a poor start.

About 12 hours non-stop from London. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement. We confirm the routing and carrier at enquiry rather than naming an airline or a specific London airport here.

Mauritius is UTC+4 — four hours ahead of the UK in winter and three during British Summer Time, since it does not observe daylight saving. Sources quoting a flat four hours all year are wrong for the BST months.

No. British passport holders get up to 60 days visa-free, with the passport stamped on arrival with the end date. It must be valid for the duration of your stay and have one blank page. Checked against GOV.UK on 17 September 2026.

Yes — the Mauritius All in One travel form, completed online before arrival, with the QR code printed for the airport. Proof of onward or return travel is required at the border as well.

It is what the holiday is built for, and both named resorts handle honeymoons routinely. Tell us when you book and we will request an arrangement with the hotel — what they offer varies by property and is never guaranteed in advance.

Not at the lead-in, which is a standard room. Villa and suite categories with those features exist at both named resorts and are quoted separately. If that is what you are picturing, say so when you enquire rather than assuming it.

August is the UK school holiday, so British demand sets the price rather than Mauritian weather. It sits well above June, for conditions that are broadly similar — both are dry southern-hemisphere winter months.

A great deal that most guests never see. Black River Gorges, the coloured earths at Chamarel, waterfalls and working tea estates fill the mountainous interior. You need a car or a guide, and neither is included in the package.

Ninety-nine pounds per person, with the balance due before travel. The holiday is ATOL 10713 protected and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. Prices are per person, based on two people sharing.

June is both the best month and the cheapest, so it moves. Set on a specific one of the two named resorts rather than "or similar", or on a suite or villa category? Book earlier — there is far less flexibility on those than on travel dates.
