The experience

Dubai in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to Dubai costs from £569 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 3, 4 or 5 nights and return flights from London. October 2026 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does a Dubai city break include, and what does it cost?

Three, four or five nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Dubai Mall of the Emirates or similar 4★ with return flights from London. ATOL protection under licence 10713 applies and a £99 per person deposit holds it. Regional UK airports are available at a supplement confirmed at enquiry. June is the cheapest month and December the dearest. Attraction tickets, the desert safari, transfers, tourist dirham and travel insurance are not included, and your meal arrangement is confirmed in writing before you pay. UAE entry is free on arrival for British passport holders.

Why is June the cheapest month?

Because June in Dubai is punishing, and the price is telling you so.

Gulf summers are extreme. From roughly June to September, daytime heat and humidity make outdoor Dubai a short-dash proposition — from air-conditioned hotel to air-conditioned taxi to air-conditioned mall. The beach is uncomfortable, the desert is worse, and walking anywhere is not a realistic plan.

The good months are November through March. On the holiday those are at the expensive end, and there is one comparison worth sitting with:

Month What the weather is doing
June Cheapest, and among the hardest months
September Still very hot, starting to ease
July Extreme heat and humidity
October Becoming genuinely pleasant late in the month
August Extreme heat and humidity
January 2027 The best weather of the year
May Heat building fast
November Warm, dry, excellent
February 2027 Warm, dry, excellent
December Dearest; peak season and festive demand

Look at January and August. Both are £579. The same money buys you the best weather Dubai has or the worst. If your dates are flexible at all, that single comparison should decide them.

October is the value pick — cheaper than January, and by the back half of the month the city has become properly pleasant again.

None of this makes a summer trip pointless. Dubai’s malls, aquarium, indoor ski slope, museums and hotel pools are all built for exactly that heat, and hotel rates across the city are at their lowest. Just go knowing it is an indoor holiday.

What you will actually do

The Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountain are named in the package’s highlights and sit together in one district. The tower is the tallest building in the world and its observation decks sell timed tickets — book ahead, and go at sunset if you can.

The desert safari, a Marina dinner cruise and the Dubai Frame are listed as optional extras against the holiday. None is included in the price. The desert safari is the one most visitors rate highest, and it is far more comfortable outside the summer months.

JBR Beach and Palm Jumeirah, also in the highlights, are the beach and waterfront side of the city — free to walk, with restaurants along the front.

Old Dubai is the part people skip and should not. The gold and spice souks in Deira, the abra boats across the creek for a few fils, and the Al Fahidi historical district are the closest thing to the city that existed before the towers.

The food is genuinely international. The UAE’s population is overwhelmingly expatriate, and the eating reflects that — Emirati, Lebanese, Indian, Filipino and Iranian food are all easy to find and mostly inexpensive away from the hotels.

The Dubai Marina and JBR are where the city feels most like somewhere people live rather than visit. The waterfront walk, the restaurants along it and the beach at the end of it are free, and the evening is when the area comes alive.

Abu Dhabi is a day trip, around ninety minutes by road, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque there is the single most impressive building in the country. Modest dress is required and enforced, with robes provided at the entrance. It is not included in the package.

The indoor attractions are not a consolation prize. The aquarium, the indoor ski slope and the water parks are genuinely good, and in the summer months they are the reason a Dubai trip still works at all.

What changes your price?

  • The month. June at its cheapest against December at its dearest, for weather at opposite ends.
  • Three nights, four or five, all available on the holiday and priced separately.
  • Departure airport. Priced from London, with regional UK airports at a supplement confirmed at enquiry.
  • Hotel and location. The lead-in is a 4★ near Mall of the Emirates; Marina, Downtown or beachfront properties are quoted separately.
  • Cabin. Around seven hours each way, so premium cabins move the total noticeably.
  • What you add on the ground. Very little is included here, so attraction tickets and excursions can add as much again to what the holiday actually costs you.

Who this holiday suits

  • First-time visitors to the Gulf — this is what the holiday is built for.
  • Short-break travellers who want long-haul warmth without a fortnight’s commitment.
  • Families, given the aquariums, water parks and indoor attractions.
  • Stopover travellers breaking a longer journey east.
  • Anyone travelling November to March, when the city is at its best.

Who might prefer something else

  • If you can only travel in high summer and want to be outdoors, this is the wrong destination in the wrong months. The Mediterranean will serve you far better.
  • Prefer history and old streets? Dubai has some but it is not Cairo or Istanbul. Manage the expectation.
  • For a beach holiday rather than a city one, this is a city break with beach access rather than a resort stay.
  • If alcohol is central to your holiday, it is available in licensed hotels and venues but it is expensive and the rules are stricter than in Europe.
  • Prefer somewhere inexpensive once you arrive? Attractions and taxis add up quickly and very little is included here.
  • Want to see the alternatives? Our full range of city breaks is worth a look before you decide.
  • Worth comparing against our Milan City Break – 3 Nights Italy, which covers similar ground.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A Marina, Downtown or beachfront hotel rather than the lead-in
  • A higher room category, or a resort with a private beach
  • Four or five nights rather than three
  • Burj Khalifa timed tickets, ideally at sunset
  • A desert safari, a Marina dinner cruise or the Dubai Frame
  • Airport transfers, and premium cabins on the flight

What is not included?

  • All attractions, including the Burj Khalifa, the aquarium and the water parks.
  • The desert safari, dinner cruise and Dubai Frame, which the package lists explicitly as optional.
  • Airport transfers and local taxis.
  • The tourist dirham, a per-room per-night charge collected by the hotel.
  • Meals beyond the board arrangement, which we confirm in writing before you pay.

How do you get there and get around?

Flights are from London, around seven hours, with regional UK airports at a supplement confirmed at enquiry.

Dubai is UTC+4 — four hours ahead of the UK in winter and three during British Summer Time. It does not observe daylight saving.

Transfers are not included. The Dubai Metro is clean, cheap and air-conditioned, and runs along the main spine of the city including to the airport. Taxis are metered, plentiful and inexpensive by European standards, and ride-hailing apps work normally. Between the two you will rarely need anything else.

The one thing to plan for is distance. Dubai is long and thin rather than compact, and the gap between Downtown, the Marina and old Deira is substantial. In summer that matters more than in winter, because walking between anything is not realistic — factor taxi time into how you plan a day.

Hiring a car is possible and the roads are excellent, but parking at the malls and the Marina is the constraint rather than the driving. For a short break most visitors are better off without one.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026.

British passport holders get a visitor visa free on arrival with no advance application. It is valid for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, continuous or split across visits.

Your passport must be valid for six months beyond arrival — three months for residence-permit holders or airside transit. There is no arrival form to complete; the visa is stamped at immigration.

Practicalities worth knowing

The working week is not what it used to be. Since January 2022 the UAE public sector works Monday to Thursday plus a half day Friday, and the weekend is Saturday and Sunday. The private sector sets its own hours. Older guidance describing a Friday–Saturday weekend is out of date.

The tourist dirham is charged per room per night by the hotel and is not in the package price.

Ramadan changes the city. Eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours is restricted, many restaurants adjust their hours, and the atmosphere after sunset is a genuine draw. The dates move each year — ask us if your travel falls near it.

Dress modestly away from the beach and pool. Malls and public buildings expect shoulders and knees covered. It is enforced more in some places than others, and it costs nothing to get right.

Alcohol rules are stricter than in Europe. It is served in licensed hotels and venues, it is expensive, and public drunkenness is treated seriously.

Public behaviour is regulated more than visitors expect. Swearing, rude gestures and public displays of affection can all cause genuine trouble rather than a warning. None of it is hard to avoid, but it is worth knowing before you arrive rather than after.

Friday prayers shift the rhythm. Some businesses close around midday on Fridays even though it is a working day, and traffic patterns change with it. Plan anything time-sensitive around it.

Travelling in January? It is Dubai’s coolest month, with an average high of 24.0°C. Our Dubai in January guide covers the weather and every Dubai package’s January price.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing. October is the value pick, and January gives you the best weather of the year for much the same money as August — which is the comparison worth making before you fix your dates.
