The experience

Vietnam & Cambodia in detail

Quick answer

A holiday to Vietnam & Cambodia costs from £1,399 per person, based on two people sharing. That covers 10, 12 or 14 nights and return flights from London. February 2027 is the cheapest departure currently on sale. Secure it with £99pp and pay the balance nearer the time. Every holiday we sell is ATOL 10713 protected.

What does this Vietnam and Cambodia tour include, and what does it cost?

Ten, twelve or fourteen nights across Vietnam and Cambodia with 4★ accommodation. The tour takes in Hanoi and Siem Reap, with the Somadevi Angkor Resort among the properties used. ATOL protection under licence 10713 applies and a £99 per person deposit holds it. What you pay depends on your dates, how many nights you want and your departure airport. June is the cheapest month and December the dearest. The full city list, the night split, the flights and the board are all confirmed in writing before you pay. Cambodia requires a visa; Vietnam does not.

What is confirmed, and what are we still checking?

The fixed points: ten, twelve or fourteen nights across Vietnam and Cambodia in 4★ hotels, a classic route running from Hanoi down to Siem Reap and Angkor, and the Somadevi Angkor Resort among the properties used. ATOL 10713 protection and a £99 per person deposit apply as on every holiday we sell.

What we set with you: We set with you which cities beyond Hanoi and Siem Reap are on your route, how the nights divide, which hotels you use, and what is covered at mealtimes.

Ask about the flights first. On a two-country tour of this length, whether the international and internal sectors are included is the single biggest variable in what you are actually buying. We confirm all of it in writing before you pay anything beyond the deposit.

If you want a South East Asia trip with everything stated up front, our Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi twin centre starts at £1,199 per person and names both its hotels and its internal flights.

What are the entry requirements — and the trap?

The two countries work completely differently, and this is where travellers doing both in one trip come unstuck.

Vietnam is visa-free for up to 45 days for tourism. Your passport must be valid six months with two blank pages and be undamaged.

Cambodia requires a visa. A tourist visa is valid 30 days from entry. You can apply for an e-visa at least four days in advance, or get a visa on arrival at airports and land borders — bring a photograph and pay in US dollars. GOV.UK does not state the cost, so we will not quote one. Your passport must be valid six months, undamaged, with no missing pages.

Cambodia also requires an electronic e-Arrival Card, mandatory within seven days before arrival by air at major airports. It is free. This is the requirement most often missed on a two-country itinerary, because people assume the Vietnamese rules carry across.

The trap worth knowing about: if you need a Vietnamese e-visa rather than the visa-free entry — for a stay beyond 45 days, or for multiple entries — the e-visa restricts you to the entry and exit points chosen on the application. On a tour that crosses into Cambodia and back, choosing the wrong points is a genuine problem rather than an inconvenience.

All checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026. Re-check before travelling; these rules change.

When should you go?

Vietnam is long enough that its north and south have different climates entirely, and Cambodia has a distinct wet season. That makes a single national recommendation impossible, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Month Worth knowing
June Cheapest month of the year
May Second cheapest
July UK school holidays begin
September Quiet, good value
August UK school holiday demand
February 2027 High season
January 2027 High season
October Shoulder season
November Peak of the dry season
December Dearest; festive demand

The pattern is clear enough even without a weather map. November through February sit at the expensive end, which is how the market prices the dry season across the region. May through September sit at the cheap end.

June and May are the value months, and on a touring itinerary that is largely about temples, cities and food, rain is far less of a problem than it would be on a beach holiday. It tends to come as heavy afternoon downpours that clear.

Tell us your dates and your route and we will tell you what the weather does on that specific itinerary — a tour that runs Hanoi to Siem Reap crosses several climate zones and a general answer would not help you.

What you will actually do

Angkor is why most people come. The temple complex outside Siem Reap is the largest religious monument in the world, and Angkor Wat itself is only the most famous of hundreds. Ta Prohm, held together by strangler figs, and the carved faces of the Bayon are the other two most visitors remember. Three days is not too many.

Hanoi, where the classic route begins, is the Vietnamese capital and the older, more atmospheric of the country’s two big cities — a dense French-colonial and Old Quarter centre, lakes, street food on every corner, and traffic that is an experience in itself.

Ha Long Bay is the usual companion to Hanoi, a few hours east: thousands of limestone karsts rising from the sea, generally visited on an overnight boat. Ask us and we will confirm what your itinerary includes.

The food is one of the great reasons to make this trip. Vietnamese cooking — pho, banh mi, fresh herbs, French-influenced bread and coffee — is light and distinct, and Cambodian cooking is milder, sweeter and much less known outside the country.

The recent history is inescapable and worth engaging with. Both countries carry the twentieth century very close to the surface, in Vietnam’s war sites and in Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge memorials. Neither is comfortable and both are important.

What changes your price?

  • The month. June at its cheapest against December at its dearest.
  • Ten nights, twelve or fourteen, all available and priced separately.
  • The itinerary itself, which we confirm with you and which will move the figure.
  • Which flights are included, which we confirm in writing before you pay.
  • Hotel category at each stop, and the board arrangement.

Who this holiday suits

  • Culture lovers, history enthusiasts, couples, solo travellers and small groups.
  • Travellers who want two countries and are prepared for the paperwork that involves.
  • Anyone drawn to Angkor, which justifies the trip on its own.
  • Food travellers, since Vietnamese cooking is among the best in Asia.
  • Travellers who would rather have an itinerary shaped around them than take a fixed one.

Who might prefer something else

  • Want a beach holiday? This is a guided touring trip. Our Seychelles retreat starts at £1,899 per person and our Langkawi twin centre at £1,199.
  • If visa paperwork puts you off, Cambodia needs a visa, an e-Arrival Card and US dollars in cash. Malaysia and the Seychelles are simpler.
  • If you dislike heat and humidity, both countries are tropical and the cheaper months are the wetter ones.
  • If a fortnight of moving sounds tiring, fourteen nights across two countries is a real pace.
  • Still weighing it up? Compare this against every one of our escorted tours.
  • Something similar? Our 6, 8 or 10 Nights Sri Lanka Highlights – Kandy, Ella & Bentota is the closest thing we sell to this one.

Ways to upgrade

All quoted at enquiry against your dates.

  • A higher hotel category at any stop on the route
  • Fourteen nights rather than ten
  • Confirmed international and internal flights, if not already inside your package
  • A private guide at Angkor, which transforms the temples
  • An overnight cruise in Ha Long Bay
  • Airport transfers, and premium cabins on the long-haul sector

What is not included?

  • The Cambodian visa and the Angkor pass, both payable locally and neither trivial in cost.
  • Excursions, including Ha Long Bay and any guided temple days.
  • Meals beyond the board arrangement, which we confirm in writing.
  • Travel insurance, which on a two-country itinerary should cover both.

How do you get there and get around?

Flights are long-haul from the UK. Whether international and internal sectors sit inside the package is confirmed at enquiry — on the holiday that is the first thing to establish.

Vietnam is seven hours ahead of the UK in winter and six during British Summer Time. Cambodia is the same. Neither observes daylight saving.

Within the countries, internal flights connect Hanoi with the south and with Siem Reap, and overland crossings are possible but slow. Vietnam’s roads and traffic are genuinely chaotic by European standards, and a guided tour removes most of the difficulty of that — which is the argument for this format over independent travel.

Entry requirements for UK travellers

Checked against GOV.UK foreign travel advice on 17 September 2026.

Vietnam: visa-free up to 45 days for tourism. Passport valid six months, two blank pages, undamaged. A digital arrival card at Tan Son Nhat is encouraged, not mandatory — do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

Cambodia: a visa is required. Tourist visa valid 30 days from entry, applied for as an e-visa at least four days in advance or obtained on arrival with a photograph and payment in US dollars. Passport valid six months, undamaged, no missing pages. The electronic e-Arrival Card is mandatory within seven days before arrival by air, and it is free.

Practicalities worth knowing

Carry US dollars for Cambodia. The visa on arrival is paid in dollars, and the currency is widely used alongside the riel across the country. Clean, untorn notes are expected.

The Angkor pass is separate and is bought at the official ticket centre rather than at the temples. One, three and seven-day passes exist; the three-day is the one most visitors should take.

Dress modestly at the temples. Shoulders and knees covered is enforced at Angkor Wat, and people are turned away at the entrance every day.

Start early at Angkor. Sunrise at Angkor Wat is crowded but the temples empty out in the middle of the day when the heat becomes serious. Take far more water than you think you need.

Traffic in Hanoi is a skill. Crossing the road means walking slowly and predictably while the scooters flow around you. Stopping suddenly is what causes problems.

Booking and protection

Your booking is covered by our ATOL licence 10713 and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. It is held with a deposit of £99 per person, with the balance due before travel.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing. June is the cheapest month and rain matters less on a touring trip than a beach one. Before anything else, ask us to confirm the itinerary and the flights in writing — on this tour that matters more than the dates.

Probably, but it tends to come as heavy afternoon downpours that clear rather than all-day grey. On an itinerary about temples, cities and food that is a minor inconvenience. Tell us your route and dates and we will be specific.

Vietnam and Cambodia are both seven hours ahead of the UK in winter and six during British Summer Time. Neither observes daylight saving, so there is no time change at all when you cross between them.

For most first-time visitors, yes. Vietnam's roads and traffic are genuinely chaotic by European standards, the two countries have completely different entry rules, and a guided format removes most of that friction.

They are inescapable and worth engaging with. Both countries carry the twentieth century close to the surface — Vietnam's war sites and Cambodia's Khmer Rouge memorials. Neither is comfortable and both are important to understanding where you are.

Slowly and predictably, letting the scooters flow around you. Stopping suddenly or darting is what causes problems. It feels alarming for the first day and becomes second nature by the third.

Ninety-nine pounds per person, with the balance due before travel. The holiday is ATOL 10713 protected and we hold IATA accreditation 91285611. Prices are per person, based on two people sharing.

Contact us before fixing anything, because on this tour the itinerary needs confirming first rather than the dates. Once that is settled, apply for the Cambodian e-visa at least four days ahead and complete the e-Arrival Card within seven days of arrival.
