A Malaysia multi-centre holiday means Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi — a city and an island, joined by a flight of about an hour. Six or eight nights, weighted towards the beach: two or three nights in KL, then four or five in Langkawi. Ours starts at £1,149 per person, with return flights from London, the internal flight included, and the Langkawi stay at the five-star Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort.

Why Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi
Malaysia is one of the easiest long-haul countries to build a two-centre trip around, because the two things it is best at sit an hour’s flight apart.
Kuala Lumpur is a genuinely good city stop rather than a place you tolerate before the beach. It is cheap by long-haul capital standards, the food is among the best in Asia, and the skyline around the Petronas Towers is worth the stop on its own. Two or three nights is exactly right — long enough to eat properly and see the city, short enough that you are on the beach before the jet lag lifts.
Langkawi is the counterweight: an island in the Andaman Sea with proper beaches, rainforest behind them, and a cable car up Gunung Machinchang to the Sky Bridge. It is quieter than Phuket and less built-up than Bali, which for a lot of people is the entire appeal.
The ratio matters more here than in a two-city trip. This is a beach holiday with a city attached, not an even split.
The flight between them
Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi takes about 1 hour 5 minutes, direct, with daily services. That is AirAsia’s own figure for the route, checked on 22 September 2026, and several carriers fly it.
The internal flight is included in the package. You are not buying it separately or working out connections after a long-haul arrival — it is booked as part of the trip, priced in, and covered by the same ATOL protection as the rest.
One practical note: it is a short domestic hop with a smaller baggage allowance than the long-haul leg. Worth knowing before you pack rather than at the check-in desk in KL.
How many nights in each
Six or eight nights in total, weighted towards Langkawi: two or three nights in Kuala Lumpur, then four or five on the island.
Two and four is the six-night version. Two nights in KL is a short stop, but the city is compact and the things people come for — the towers, the food, Batu Caves on the edge of town — fit into a day and a half without rushing.
Three and five is the eight-night version and the better one. The third night in KL means you can do a proper day out rather than choosing between the city and the caves, and the fifth on Langkawi is the one that makes the beach feel like a holiday rather than a long weekend.
Given the flight from the UK, we would steer most people to eight nights.
Where you stay
The Langkawi half of this trip is at the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, a five-star resort on Cenang Beach — and that is the specific property, not a category. Most package holidays name a hotel and add “or similar”; this one does not, so you know before you book exactly where you are sleeping for the longer half of the trip.
The Kuala Lumpur stay is at the PARKROYAL Collection Kuala Lumpur or similar, which does carry the usual flexibility on the city leg.
Both are confirmed in writing before you pay anything, along with the night split and the internal flight timings.
What it costs, month by month
| Month | From (per person) |
|---|---|
| June | £1,149 — the cheapest month |
| May | £1,199 |
| September | £1,199 |
| July | £1,249 |
| October | £1,249 |
| August | £1,299 |
| November | £1,299 |
| January | £1,299 |
| February | £1,349 |
| December | £1,449 — the dearest month |
All prices are per person and include return flights from London plus the internal flight to Langkawi.
The spread from cheapest to dearest month is 26% — December costs £300 per person more than June. That is a narrower swing than a European city break, where the same package can more than double between January and July, and it is worth knowing if your dates are fixed by school holidays.
Practical things worth knowing
Entry. British passport holders need no visa for tourism and are normally allowed 90 days on arrival. Your passport must have an expiry date at least six months after you arrive, and it must be undamaged with no missing pages. **An arrival card must be submitted online before you travel** — airlines may ask for it at check-in, so it is not something to leave until you land. Checked against GOV.UK travel advice on 22 September 2026.
Two climates, one trip. Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi do not share a weather pattern, and the island has a wetter stretch that the capital does not. Tell us when you want to go and we will tell you honestly what to expect on each leg.
Alcohol on Langkawi. The island is duty-free, which makes it noticeably cheaper than the mainland for anyone who wants a drink with dinner.
The baggage step-down. Long-haul allowances do not carry over to the internal hop. Check the number before you pack, not at the airport.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi?
About 1 hour 5 minutes, direct, with daily services — AirAsia’s own figure for the route, checked 22 September 2026. On our twin-centre trip that internal flight is included in the package price.
Which Malaysian destinations work best as a twin centre?
Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. The city gives you food, the towers and a genuinely good urban stop; the island gives you beaches, rainforest and the cable car. They are an hour apart by air, so the move costs you half a morning.
How many nights should I spend in Kuala Lumpur?
Two or three. KL is compact and the main sights fit comfortably into a day and a half. Three nights is better if you want a day out to Batu Caves or beyond without giving up the city itself.
Is the internal flight included?
Yes. The Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi flight is booked as part of the trip, priced in, and covered by the same ATOL protection as the long-haul legs. You are not arranging connections yourself after a long-haul arrival.
What is the cheapest month for a Malaysia multi-centre holiday?
June, at £1,149 per person. May and September follow at £1,199. December is the dearest at £1,449 — a 26% spread across the year, which is narrower than a European city break usually swings.
Do I need a visa for Malaysia?
No visa for tourism, and normally 90 days on arrival. Your passport needs at least six months’ validity from the date you arrive. You do have to submit an arrival card online before travelling — airlines may ask for it at check-in. Checked against GOV.UK on 22 September 2026.
Which hotel do you stay in on Langkawi?
The Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, a five-star resort on Cenang Beach. It is named specifically rather than as a category, so the property for the longer half of the trip is fixed before you book.
Can I fly from a regional airport rather than London?
The published price is based on return flights from London. Tell us your nearest airport and we will price the same trip from there, including any supplement, before you commit.
