Budapest Christmas Markets — 2, 3 or 4 nights

Budapest runs two great markets — Vörösmarty Square and the light show projected onto St Stephen’s Basilica — and you can warm up afterwards in a thermal bath. This short break puts you in the middle of it from £139 per person, with return flights from London, a 4★ hotel and full ATOL 10713 protection.

Why Budapest at Christmas?

The centrepiece is the Vörösmarty Square market at Vörösmarty Square — timber stalls, roasted chestnuts and the smell of mulled wine, with St Stephen’s Basilica and the Danube floodlit above it all. Set aside an evening simply to walk it once the crowds thin and the lights do the work.

Don’t leave without trying chimney cake and mulled wine — the seasonal taste locals queue for, and the cheapest souvenir you’ll bring home.

Airport transfers, checked baggage and seat selection are optional extras rather than oversights — city-centre hotels here are a short, cheap taxi or train from the airport, and plenty of travellers on a short break prefer to travel hand-luggage only. We’ll add any of them if you’d rather not think about it.

When to go

You can travel November 2026 and December 2026. The markets are liveliest in December, and the weekends closer to Christmas are the busiest and the priciest — if you can travel midweek or in the last week of November you’ll pay less and share the stalls with fewer people. Whichever dates you pick, we confirm the market is actually running before you book.

How many nights?

Choose 2, 3 or 4 nights. Two nights is the classic long-weekend market break — arrive, one full day, home. A third or fourth night turns it into a proper short holiday with time for a museum, a restaurant you booked ahead, or a day trip. The lead-in price is for the shortest stay; your consultant prices the exact length you want.

Tell us your dates and departure airport and we’ll confirm a live price; peak December weekends and the best-value hotels sell through early, so the sooner you book, the better the choice and the fare.

Every flight-inclusive package we sell is ATOL 10713 protected, and you’ll receive an ATOL Certificate confirming exactly what is covered. That is financial protection if a supplier fails — it is not travel insurance, which you still need to arrange separately.
